[letterhead with american flag on left YMCA symbol on right] ARMY AND NAVY YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION "WITH THE COLORS" Sunday Nov. 10, 1918 Dear Helen: Quite a time has passed since I have written you and while lying in bed the morning I decided, using the Army phrase, to "snap out of it" and write you. Since I saw you in Midd we have as you all know, passed through one Peace celebration. My but the people of N.Y. and Newark sure did cut loose. Parades and drunken soldiers and sailors galore. Now after experiencing this celebration I sure do want to be a- round here when the Real one comes off, though [printed on the bottom of the page] TO THE WRITER: SAVE BY WRITING ON BOTH SIDES OF THIS PAPER TO THE FOLKS AT HOME: SAVE FOOD: BUY LIBERTY BONDS AND WAR SAVINGS STAMPS [Page break] Can bet it sure did seem like old times. Jocksie hasn't changed a great deal. Has lost some of his bashfulness but still is good fun. Surprise of surprises To-day also when indulging Is that extreme good pleasure -sleep twice the boy awakened me telling me that someone wanted me on the phone.- A whole lot happens when I've a- sleep doesn't it teacher? Well I called up the party And who was it but Al Logan. Graduated in `16 We were " Pea greeners" then so you probably don't remember him. Will see him tomorrow so am anticipating a big time. Just one year ago we Were together at the Kaiserhopf sounds bad doesn't it Helen? In New York After the [stevens?] game. [page break] from all indications it looks as though I'll do my bit of celebrating along with the rest of the Boys at Edgewood Arsenal, MD. In fact orders have come through transferring most of the men back here. Oh lawdy lawdy I hope they're lst me in the shuffle & doesn't discover their error Until after Peace is de- clared and there I've going to apply for my discharge in order that I may com- plete my education which I'm sorry to state, has been sadly neglected of late. Friday night I was With Jocko Mead at The ΔKE club and you [page break] I understand Keppler closed his season at Midd in a blaze of glory. You can bet I'm glad of it. I wish that I could have been there with him. It doesn't seem natural for me not to see the old pigskin staring me in the face this year. Skating season has begun in New York and were I sure of a stay of any length here I'd send for mine and spend most of my time & money right on the old ice. Just think teacher, all last year skipped by & we didn't enjoy a single Skate together? Don't let this happen again. Well you're saying pro- bably that I've rushing the season so I'll close now. Even if you won't take my messages from ΔKE I know You'll accept them from me personally -always- Brainy [page break] [envelope addressed to] Miss Helen S, B Stilphen Middlebury College Middlebury Vermont 30 Persons Hall
